Day 4: Shapwick to Elworthy (31 Miles)

Well I didn’t think we’d make it this far, the shape we were in when we woke up (at 6:45am!). Mr Wightman has contracted my sore knee and mine strangely feels much better! We went through some amazing scenery today and Mr Wightman had planned a stunning route for us. We only managed to get lost once today, our footpath ending at a river that we were unable to cross! Eventually we found a stunning Victorian Iron bridge which took us across to Bridgewater.

Mrs Wightman arrived halfway through our journey with refreshments and Mr Wighman’s daughter walked with us some of the way to the brow of Merridge Hill.

Some late changes to our route as we made our way to Elworthy, proved inspired as we cut down our total mileage to what now seems to be out daily target! Arriving at a beautiful old church, which isn’t used as a place of worship anymore but is maintained by heritage.

Exmoor tomorrow a long winding day, we are nearly there!
